Experience
Free & Clear has been a national leader in the delivery of phone-based cognitive behavioral coaching for over 20 years.
Free & Clear, Inc., formerly The Center for Health Promotion, Inc., was originally a department of Group Health Cooperative, a consumer-managed, regional health system serving more than 600,000 members in the Pacific Northwest.
Free & Clear's Quit For Life® Program evolved over 20 years ago from research funded by the National Cancer Institute to test the effectiveness of telephonic smoking cessation treatment. The results of the study showed that combining self-management materials with cessation calls boosted quit rates over 50% compared to controls. Since that time Free & Clear has established itself as a national leader in tobacco cessation services delivered by phone, and more recently via web.
Today, Free & Clear employs over 230 service delivery staff and helps over 1000 people per day with their efforts to quit tobacco use. Our clients include 16 state governments and over 190 health plans and employers (45 in the Fortune 500) representing over 50 million people.
Free & Clear is recognized for its scientific expertise and leadership in the field of tobacco cessation. As part of Group Health Cooperative, it was consistently recognized by the American Association of Health Plans' Managed Care Achievements in Tobacco Control Awards Program and by the CDC and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as a model tobacco cessation program. In addition, Free & Clear has worked with esteemed research partners such as Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, SRI International, Center for Health Research, and Center for Health Studies and has provided testimony to public policy makers for tobacco treatment.
